Overview
Chasing Memories – A Monster Girl RPG is a 2D adventure RPG for players who want a lighter harem story with real combat underneath. The tone stays playful, even when the systems get a bit crunchy.
Story
The protagonist has lost his memory and sets out to recover it, though he's just as content to drift through life freeloading and flirting with the women and monster girls he meets along the way. The search for his past stays in the background, giving room for whatever detours come up.
Gameplay
Combat runs on turn-based mechanics inspired by Pokémon-style systems, with each enemy carrying its own animated moves, accuracy, and status effects. Outside of fights, you explore a dungeon-crawling sandbox freely, triggering random encounters or stumbling into someone worth getting to know. Players who'd rather skip the RPG grind can lean on a built-in cheat menu to move straight to the story and character scenes.
Features
- Animated combat moves with distinct power and accuracy for every enemy
- A main menu gallery that unlocks scenes you've already seen, for easy replay
- A timing-based minigame woven into interactions outside of combat
- Optional cheat tools for players who want to skip the RPG layer entirely
Installation
1. Extract and run.
Changelog
v0.45
- Content warning is real for this update. There is a reason this game has a graphic violence tag.
- The main story finally picks up. Check the journal if you don't know what to do.
- If you're stuck at the "meet some people" section of the main quest, don't worry - just explore the dungeons and try to get to the end of the Deep Forest map.
- There's a new Sylvia loredump, this time on the divinities of Kalrey. It's available if you've seen the previous one.
- A lot of backgrounds have been completely reworked. They are still AI, as I haven't found any artist that would match the style I want to go for, but they look a lot less shitty now.
- Your bedroom has some goodies in it now, courtesy of Hazel.
- Hazel's hub has a new option - the Board. You can get some repeatable quests there, kill some creatures, earn some cash - that kind of thing. It's very barebones as of now (I'll make a proper notice board sometime in the future) but it works and is a nice way to earn some money.
- New attacks, and items. Mira has three new items on sale, one very useful in my opinion - go check them out!
- New music, courtesy of CallMeToby
New enemies:
- New ???
- 2 new Extra Gallery Scenes, one free
- Made Kate's Extra Gallery Scene available for free - I'll be making old scenes free once in a while so look forward to that
- Some QoL updates, mostly just guides and stuff like that - there are new help buttons in your inventory
- Both dungeons now have maps with points of interest marked on them! Should make dungeon crawling less annoying
